Standard Camper and RV Insurance Coverage Options

The following coverage options are available from most camper and RV insurance companies:

  • Liability coverage: This covers expenses related to third-party claims of bodily injury or personal property damage caused by you and your camper or RV.
  • Collision coverage: Pays for damage to your camper or RV from a collision with another object, regardless of fault.
  • Comprehensive coverage: Pays for damage to your camper or RV due to a non-collision event such as a flood or theft.
  • Medical payments coverage: This covers medical expenses for you and your passengers after a collision, regardless of fault.
  • Personal injury protection: This covers medical expenses, lost income, funeral expenses, childcare, and other costs if you get injured in a collision, regardless of fault. This coverage is not available in every state.
  • Uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage: This covers expenses for accidents, etc., involving other drivers who don't carry adequate insurance to reimburse you for their portion of the damages.

Work together with an independent insurance agent to build a complete RV or camper insurance policy that includes every type of coverage you need.

Additional RV and Camper Insurance Coverage Options

In addition to the standard coverages listed above, you might want to further build out your RV or camper insurance policy with some of the following options:

  • Full-time coverage: This coverage is designed for RV and camper owners who also use their vehicles as a full-time residence. It includes similar coverage to a homeowners insurance policy that can reimburse you for incidents related to guest injuries and property damage, as well as higher overall liability and medical payment limits.
  • Emergency expense coverage: This covers emergency expenses if your RV or camper breaks down a certain distance from your home and leaves you stranded. Coverage can pay for hotel rooms, travel expenses, and more.
  • Vacation liability insurance: This covers your RV or camper if it's used as a temporary residence, such as for vacations. It can reimburse for physical damage and other expenses resulting from collisions and threats covered by comprehensive insurance.
  • Towing and roadside assistance coverage: This covers expenses if you need a professional tow or another service if your RV or camper breaks down on the road and leaves you stranded.
  • Loan/lease gap coverage: This covers the difference between your RV or camper's current value and what's owed on your loan or lease if your vehicle is declared a total loss.
  • Personal property and belongings coverage: This covers your personal property, like laptops, furniture, cellphones, etc., in your RV or camper if it gets stolen, lost, or damaged by a covered peril.
  • Pet injury coverage: This covers expenses such as vet bills if your pets (i.e., domesticated animals like cats and dogs) get injured while in your RV or camper.
  • Safety glass replacement coverage: This covers the replacement of your RV or camper's windshield if it gets damaged or destroyed due to a covered peril.

A local independent insurance agent can recommend any additional types of RV or camper insurance you may need to complete your policy.

An Independent Insurance Agent Can Help You Get RV or Camper Insurance

Shopping for RV and camper insurance on your own may be intimidating, especially when considering all the available coverage options. Local independent insurance agents can greatly simplify the process for you by shopping and comparing policies and rates from multiple carriers in your area. They also know exactly which types of coverage to recommend based on the specifics of your RV or camper and how you plan to use it. Better yet, your agent can help you file RV or camper insurance claims if the time comes.
